Lighting

We have created a high efficiency lighting system which looks and feels like normal home lighting.

From the inviting entryway pendant to the functional under-cabinet LEDs, all the way to the intimately-dimmed bedroom lighting, our electric lighting embodies a functional aesthetic that is both beautiful and appropriate, elegant and effective.

Light 01 Light 02 Light 03

We are utilizing energy-efficient, high color-rendering fluorescent lights in all main fixtures. Most lights are dimming-capable through the use of standard light dimmers that avoid special wiring and allow for flexible lighting environments while maintaining energy efficiency. Additionally, the lights can be controlled manually or automatically through a seamless control system computer interface. This system, which also controls the appliances, window opacity, and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning system (HVAC) can be accessed by any computer or cell phone from near or afar. Private dinner? Dim lights as needed. Late night book-reading? Turn lights up bright. Forgot to turn off lights before a vacation? Pull out your cell phone and turn them off.

Light Fixtures that Enhance Architectural Beauty

All fixtures are California mission-inspired, but are traditional in line and shape, contemporary without being too modern. In order to focus the eye not on the light, but on the structural feature of interest, we have designed several notable lighting fixtures in the living room. Drop-down pendants in the living room entryways focus attention on the exposed bamboo I-joists of the ceiling. Subtle up-lighting fixtures run around the upper edge of the living room walls, gracefully illuminating the exposed bamboo I-beams, making the RiPpLe Home literally glow from above.

Contrary to popular marketing, light emitting diodes, or LEDs, are not yet as efficient as fluorescent lights for full room coverage. However, we are using them where they are efficient: in spaces where the light source is very close to the light subject. Look for these lights in spaces where fluorescent lights would emit an excess of light: on our desktop workspace and mounted under our kitchen cabinets for task-oriented and appropriate light levels.

Our home is functional, beautiful and well lit, no matter the weather conditions or activity.
